Teen Therapy in NC
Teen Therapy for Anxiety, Identity, Stress & Emotional Growth in North Carolina. One of my greatest joys is supporting teens as they navigate overwhelming emotions, changing relationships, academic pressure, self-esteem struggles, and the journey of becoming who they are.
Your Teen Deserves a Space to Feel Seen, Heard & Supported
Benefits of Therapy for Your Teenager
Let’s equip your teen with healthy coping skills now so they feel more prepared for life’s challenges later. Here are a few differences you may see in your teen:
Improved Coping Skills
Therapy can help teens better understand their emotions instead of feeling controlled by them. As they develop healthier coping tools, parents often notice fewer emotional shutdowns, less reactivity, improved stress management, and a greater ability to communicate what they’re feeling.
Stronger Sense of Self
Many teens struggle quietly with self-doubt, perfectionism, people-pleasing, or fear of not being “good enough.” Therapy can help them build confidence, develop self-trust, and feel more secure in who they are - not just in how they perform academically, socially, or athletically.
Healthier Relationships
When teens feel overwhelmed, communication at home can become tense, distant, or filled with conflict. Therapy can help teens express themselves more openly, navigate difficult emotions, and strengthen family relationships in a healthier, more connected way.
Your Teen Doesn't Need To Be In Crisis To Go To Therapy
The teen years can bring emotional highs and lows, shifting identities, friendship changes, family tension, and increased pressure to succeed. Therapy offers a steady, supportive space where they can feel safe navigating questions about who they are and who they want to become.
In therapy, I provide a safe and nonjudgmental space for them to slow down, process emotions, and feel supported through life’s challenges.
Here are some of the things we may work on:
- Anxiety or panic attacks
- School stress or burnout
- Self-esteem struggles
- Perfectionism and people-pleasing
- Family conflict or communication issues
- Social anxiety or friendship struggles
- Identity exploration
- Emotional overwhelm or shutdown
- Fear, phobias, or intrusive thoughts
- Depression, life transitions or grief

A Space Where Teens Don’t Have to Pretend
Some teens appear “high functioning” on the outside while internally battling anxiety, burnout, perfectionism, or fear of failure. Others may come across as withdrawn, unmotivated, or uninterested in connecting, when there’s often something more happening beneath the surface. No matter how your teen presents themselves, I strive to create a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where teens can show up as they are. Therapy with me is not about “fixing” your teen or forcing them to talk before they’re ready.
Together, we build trust at their pace while exploring emotions, stressors, relationships, identity, and the deeper layers of who they are and who they want to become.
What Parents Can Expect
Support for Your Teen, Guidance for You
Parents are an important part of the therapeutic process. While your teen’s privacy and trust are my top priority, I also believe meaningful growth happens when families feel more connected, understood, and supported together.
Throughout therapy, I help teens build the skills and confidence to communicate more openly, navigate emotions in healthier ways, and strengthen relationships within the family system. There may also be times when parent sessions or joint sessions with your teen can be helpful to improve communication, increase understanding, and create a more supportive home environment.
My goal is to help both teens and parents feel more informed, emotionally equipped, and supported throughout the process.

Imagine Your Teen Feeling More Confident, Connected, & At Peace
Care. Curiosity. Consistency.
Working with me feels grounded, collaborative, and personalized for you. Sessions are a mix of real conversation and gentle structure — space to slow down, be honest, and make sense of what you’re carrying, without pressure to perform or “fix” yourself.
I bring a steady, calm presence and we move at your pace. Some sessions may feel reflective and spacious; others more focused and practical. Together, we’ll pay close attention to what’s coming up for you in the moment, adjusting as needed so the work feels supportive, respectful, and aligned with where you are.
This is not a rushed or one-size-fits-all process. It’s a collaborative unfolding, where you’re met with care, curiosity, and consistency — and where change happens in a way that feels sustainable, not forced.

Frequently Asked Questions
What types of therapy are offered at Compass and Light Counseling?
I draw from a variety of evidence-based approaches, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Motivational Interviewing. Together, we’ll find the approaches that work best for you. If something doesn’t feel like the right fit, we’ll collaborate to adjust and create a therapy experience that supports your goals and growth.
Do you take insurance?
We’re a private-pay practice, which means we don’t bill insurance directly. This gives you more freedom and privacy in your care. We can provide a superbill if you want to seek out-of-network reimbursement, and we accept HSA/FSA cards.
Do you offer virtual therapy?
Yes! We offer secure, HIPAA-compliant virtual therapy for individuals and couples throughout North Carolina. Whether you're in Raleigh or anywhere else in the state, we make therapy convenient and accessible.
How do I know if a therapist is the right fit for me?
Finding the right therapist is about more than just credentials, it’s about how you feel talking with them- even when the work gets hard. I offer a free 15-minute consult to give you a glimpse of what working together could be like. You can also explore my 'about me' page to get a feel for my therapeutic style and approach.
